DM can increase the susceptibility to respiratory infections such as the greater affinity of SARS-COV-2 for cell binding and entry, reduced viral clearance and impaired monocyte and macrophage functions. A recent study presented significantly higher mortality and multiple organ injury in COVID-19 patients with T2D than the non-diabetic individuals. COVID-19 patients with well-controlled blood glucose were associated with lower mortality during hospitalization. As nutrition has a significant role in blood sugar control, how do provide nutritional guidelines to achieve a better outcome for those COVID-19 patients with DM?
